Lord Akeldama

Manga Art Launch: Lord Akeldama

A quick note, Gentle Reader, before we start for those of you waiting on your stickers from the contest, I'm waiting them to be shipped to me. Since it was a last minute decision to award runners up, I only recently ordered them. And it's me, so I really wanted to find pretty ones, I do apologize for the delay.

And now, we have the initial sketches for Lord Akeldama!

It was impossible not to grin at Lord Akeldama; his attire was so consistently absurd. In addition to the heels, he wore yellow checked gaiters, gold satin breeches, an orange and lemon striped waistcoat and an evening jacket of sunny pink brocade. His cravat was a frothy flowing waterfall of orange, yellow, and pink Chinese silk, barely contained by a magnificently huge ruby pin. His ethereal face was powdered quite unnecessarily, for he was already completely pale, a predilection of his kind. He sported round spots of pink blush on each cheek like a Punch and Judy puppet. He also affected a gold monocle, although, like all vampires, he had perfect vision.

My manga artist's name is Rem. The Soulless manga is coming out via Yen Press. It launches officially at Comic Con in San Diego July 21. It will be available serialized in Yen Plus, a monthly online anthology. starting July 11, and as a full book next spring!

Timeless: Finished with last draft, awaiting copyedits.
Etiquette & Espionage: The Finishing School Book One: Rough draft done. Working on first read through.
Secret Project PPA: Only a twinkle in my little eye.

BIG FAT SPOILER ALERT! Really, DON'T READ THE BLURB ON AMAZON if you haven't read the other books first!

Book News:
My first Heartless review from Sarah. She says, "It really is the novel where you get to learn just that little bit more. As if that weren’t enough, there’s a really good twist at the end that has huge repercussions for the Woolsey pack and under the full moon, everyone shows their true natures."

Quote of the Day:
"A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend."

My, my, if that's not a predecessor of our Kamijo! XD I love the long hair Akeldama got here, quite avantgarde and so inviting... the change of expression was rendered wonderfully, actually I'd love to see the change in his depiction in the later installments of the series. Is there a chance that those stories will be published in manga shape, too?

Why, the exact picture of Kamijo that I was looking to post, haha. Though...I think I have one with the same hair, and a lip ring in the place of Akeldama's beauty mark that only increases resemblance.
Oh dear, Kamijo, I do not want you distracting from the Lord while I am reading....
Do you? My, that's fascinating! XD Though I don't think they quite resemble each other in character, as little as I know about Kamijo, the physical resemblence was probably to be expected.

By the way, bookdepository (where I pre-ordered "Heartless"... a lifetime ago) has informed me that it's in stock! =D I'm not sure about the US, you probably prefer amazon or the like...
Haha, I spent a moment trying to analyze and search out a similairity in personalities, but...no, I do believe that they are fairly opposite. But of course, as soon as Akeldama is Japanese, he will look like Kamijo!

We recieved our books today, and...have finished them as a result. ^~^; That odd trouble with Americans recieving books early, but...I will not complain. Let me know as -soon- as you have yours, of course, and I will contain all spoilers until then.
Ahaha, lucky you! I hope you can bear with me until then, me not being the quickest reader out there either (oh hi, concentration - oh bye, 'twas nice seeing you...). ;P
Hoohoo, no worries. Enjoy at your own pace, of course.
Awesome picture. I believe Yen has bought the rights to the first three. But it will probably ride on how well the first one does.
I was thinking they'd base it on sales figures, but if they bought the rights already, it's at least not totally out of discussion. :) Thanks!
Oh he DOES resemble Kamijo a lot. :D:D
Oh. My. GOODNESS!

Rem's Lord Akeldama is simply gorgeous. Bishonen to the nth degree. I can't wait to see how the letterer writes his dialogue.

(Thank you for the update on the stickers - can't wait to see what you picked out!)
Love love love Akeldama. Perfect.
OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
I have been waiting for this entry since you first announced the manga, you can't understand how happy I am right now! XD ♥
Oh my goodness -gracious-, the moment I have been waiting for!! And it is beautiful! He looks amazing, oh-! If I wasn't excited before (which I was) I most certainly am now!
Now Alexia and Conall, and they will surely look fabulous.

What a pretty picture for parasol... I really do love that era.
Gail, I had a question (aha, another! will I ever run out!?)... Where is the picture you use as your Akeldama icon from?
Ah, very good question. That's Frank Churchill of the BBC's Emma (the one with Kate Beckinsale in the lead) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118308/. The actor's name is Raymond Coulthard and he is better known for his role in Hotel Babylon.
Oh my, really? I have a feeling I might like the movie much better with an adorable looking Churchill like that. And I like Kate Beckinsale too... Thank you so much, I will look it up!
Your Infusion of Cute:
OMG! Love the hedgehog.
Dang he's so cute! I just wanna hug him!
This picture of George 111 of England (a much misunderstood man - see Christopher Hibbert's enthralling personal history)is more how I envisage Lord Akeldama; in full Georgian panoply but rather more beautiful than Farmer George of course. I guess manga is really not my style, but it is interesting to see someone else's visualisation of the characters.

Out of interest - in Timeless will we find out the origin of the Egyptian belief that the soul was weighed against a feather? I envy Alexia her trip (I can see her admiring Hatshetput) - I'd love to go back - bit unlikely in near future as they have just chopped off chunks of my vertabrae, plus the social changes going on there - there were enough machine guns around when we went.
Oooh, isn't he just darling! I love his hair! I trust his Lordship is pleased with the artistic rendering?

I can't wait to see more of his clothing!

Makes me wish....

....that he was real so I could hang out with him. Even if he is a cat person while I'm a dog person.

Oh my goodness - he looks simply, positively spectacularly fabulous. And fabulously spectacular. Remarkable. How exciting! It will be so nice to have this out soon, I'm already aching from waiting for Timeless (best save it for the long haul, I know). But only a month off for the first glimpse of the manga - I can do this!
Oh my goodness! Rem is amazing! This just made me love Lord Akeldama even more!
The new story title sounds fantastic! I cannot wait to have it published :)
Etiquette & Espionage: The Finishing School Book One - how tantalizing - any blurbs on what it will be about? Already I'm a flutter with anticipation.
