Charities Moo

Pat Rothfass's Worldbuilders Fundraiser for Heifer International is going on now.

Moo!

It features much loot from yours truly. Signed books and signed foreign editions as well as a hat tuckerization!

While we are on the subject, a quick word on charities.

In addition to donating to Worldbuilders for this annual fundraiser (which I'll probably continue for the foreseeable future), I support a select group of causes, schools, and libraries with both donated books and funding. I value literacy and education. That's how I enjoy giving back to my community because that's how I earn a living.

I prefer to stay private about the specifics of my philanthropic endeavors and have personal reasons for choosing causes. I spend a deal of time researching to ensure every one I choose is run efficiently and with few ulterior motives or agendas. I simply don't have the time to research, qualify, and support every request I receive. It's for this reason that I prefer not to endorse publicly (through retweeting or other means) additional charitable organizations.

I've adopted a policy of proactively finding causes dear to my heart, rather than responding to solicitations. I kindly hope that my Gentle Readers out there will understand and respect my wishes in this matter.

That's a very reasonable approach to charity! I must say I RT things on twitter and sometimes blog, too, but there have been throwbacks (i.e. the times when I didn't know PETA was rather an animal killer than saviour), and as a person of much more publicity I'd probably handle it the way you do. It's a humble thing not to do it too publicly, and probably rather British of you. ;)

On an unrelated note, I found a packet of Twinings Breakfast Tea here yesterday! =D It's loose-leafed, no tea bags, but I'm still amazed that the tea is all small little crumbles (I'm used to green tea, where tea leaves sometimes swim in the cup almost in whole). Is that a good tea none the less? It's very hard to find fresh, high quality tea for affordable prices here, so I was very thrilled to see that brand, and I found HobNobs and Digestives, too! *bliss*
Ah, technically the more powdered the tea the more inferior. But I rather love Twinnings despite its lack of good form. If you'd like to try something in the vein of what i drink for a high end tea, a whole leaf Assam is my preferred tea. But you'd have to go to a specialist to get it. We rather get into a discussion on the subject on the Tea Rage podcast.
Good cause :)

Oh, you've probably already seen this, but I spotted it today and thought of you: http://pinterest.com/pin/58969076342614971/
